Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, which inaugurated commercial flights on August 5th, 2004, is one of the three major civilian airports in China. Today, it hosts a total of more than 200 airlines, including over 100 international ones.

Located in the north of Guangzhou, neighboring Huadu District and Renhe Town, the airport is 28 kilometers distant from Haizhu Square, the geographic center of Guangzhou. Using specially constructed expressways, passengers from Guangzhou or neighboring cities can arrive at the airport conveniently.

Via Telephone

There are 30 automatic and 4 manual consultation hotlines with the telepnone number 86-20-36066999. Three languages, Mandarin, Cantonese and English are available.

The automatic consultation hotlines are divided into three categories: voice consultation, consultations about flight numbers and physical addresses respectively.

● Voice Consultation: After answering peliminary questions asked by the computer, passengers can obtain necessary information. The computer uses voice recognition to provide information.

● Consultation about flight numbers: By inputting the number of a flight using the telephone key pad, passengers can get all information about that flight.

● Consultation about addresses: By inputting the telephone code of a city (for example: 010 for Beijing) on the phone key pad, passengers can get all information about flights from Guangzhou to that city.

● By keying the number 0 on the telephone key pad, you can reach an operator for direct consultation.

Via SMS

Passengers can also get information through mobile phones. China Mobile subscribers can send SMS with the number of the flight to 06116116 and China Unicom subscribers to 96818109. Individual consulatations have a charge of RMB 1 yuan for each SMS and the monthly charge for the service is RMB 6.

Airport Express (Kong Gang Kuai Xian, Ji Chang Kuai Xian)

There 15 express bus lines between the city center and airport, including Airport Express Lines 1-11, Foshan Line, Shude Line, Nanhai Line, and Longshan Line, with fares ranging from 10 to 45 yuan. There are also multiple bus lines between the new airport and cities in the Pearl River Delta.

Taxis

Taxis may be the most convenient way to travel but the cost is high. It usually costs RMB150 from the Guangzhou Railway Station to the airport with expressway toll fees included.

Private cars

It usually takes about twenty minutes to drive to the airport from downtown along the 24-kilometer expressway. The expressway toll fee is RMB15 per way. Cars can be parked at the airport's parking lots for the night.

۞ Lithium Batteries Not Allowed in Check-in Luggage

Under existing national regulations, passengers' check-in luggage must not contain lithium batteries, lighters, matches and other prohibited items. Passengers may place electronic devices with lithium batteries, along with up to two backup batteries, in their carry-on luggage. In this case, passengers must take precautions to prevent the batteries from being activated or short-circuited by accident.
